Career Development Events (CDEs) are competitive experiences that test students’ technical knowledge and practical skills in specific areas of agriculture. For example, from evaluating livestock to designing floral arrangements, from diagnosing plant diseases to presenting agricultural sales pitches, CDEs challenge students to apply what they have learned in the classroom to real-world agricultural scenarios. They are judged on accuracy, decision-making, technical depth, and professional presentation. Thus, CDEs build technical expertise.
Leadership Development Events (LDEs) focus on the communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills that define effective leaders. Students compete in events like public speaking, parliamentary procedure, and extemporaneous discussion — developing the confidence and clarity that will serve them throughout their careers and lives. Consequently, LDEs build leadership capacity.
