How it is calculated
  • Hours per year = hours per week × weeks per year.
  • Hourly to salary: Yearly salary = hourly rate × hours per year.
  • Salary to hourly: first convert the entered amount to yearly salary: Yearly = amount; Monthly × 12; Biweekly × (weeks per year ÷ 2); Weekly × weeks per year; Daily × days per week × weeks per year. Then, hourly rate = yearly salary ÷ hours per year.
  • Breakdown: Hourly = hourly rate; Daily = hourly rate × (hours per week ÷ days per week); Weekly = hourly rate × hours per week; Biweekly = weekly × 2; Monthly = yearly ÷ 12; Yearly = hourly rate × hours per year.

Figures are rounded to two decimal places for display only. Weekly and biweekly pay use a normal working week; monthly pay is yearly pay divided by 12.

Quick Answer

This hourly to salary calculator converts pay in both directions. To turn an hourly rate into an annual salary, use Salary = Hourly rate × Hours per week × Weeks per year. To turn a salary into an hourly rate, use Hourly rate = Salary ÷ (Hours per week × Weeks per year). You can enter the salary as a yearly, monthly, biweekly, weekly or daily amount, so you can model your real schedule instead of assuming the standard 40 × 52 = 2,080-hour year.

Example: at $28 per hour, 40 hours a week and 52 weeks a year, you work 2,080 hours and earn $58,240 a year, or $4,853.33 a month, $2,240 biweekly, $1,120 a week and $224 a day (before tax).

How to Use the Hourly Salary Calculator

  1. Pick a direction. Choose “Hourly rate → Salary” or “Salary → Hourly rate”.
  2. Enter your schedule. Add your hours per week, weeks per year and days per week. Use the 52, 50 and 48 buttons if you have unpaid time off.
  3. Enter your pay. Type your hourly rate, or your salary and its pay period (yearly, monthly, biweekly, weekly or daily). Commas and currency symbols are fine, so “60,000” or “$25” work.
  4. Choose a currency. USD, GBP, EUR, PKR, INR, AED, CAD and AUD are available. This only changes the symbol; it does not convert exchange rates.
  5. Read the results. You get a large headline figure and a breakdown of hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly and yearly pay, plus your hours per year.
  6. Check the working. Open “Show working” to see every step, or use “Copy results” to keep them.

Hourly Rate to Annual Salary

To convert an hourly wage to an annual salary, multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work each week, then by the weeks you work each year. For a full-time job with paid vacation, that is usually 40 hours and 52 weeks.

📐 Formula Annual salary = Hourly rate × Hours per week × Weeks per year

Salary to Hourly Rate

To convert an annual salary to an hourly rate, divide the yearly salary by the number of hours you work in a year. On a standard full-time schedule that is 2,080 hours (40 hours × 52 weeks).

📐 Formula Hourly rate = Annual salary ÷ (Hours per week × Weeks per year)

If your pay is quoted monthly, weekly, biweekly or daily, the calculator first converts it to a yearly figure:

  • Monthly × 12
  • Biweekly × (weeks per year ÷ 2)
  • Weekly × weeks per year
  • Daily × days per week × weeks per year

How It Works

This calculator puts any wage on the same gross-pay basis, so you can compare job offers fairly. Hourly mode multiplies your rate by your yearly working hours, then divides the total into monthly, biweekly, weekly and daily amounts. Salary mode converts your pay period to a yearly amount first, then divides by your yearly hours to find the hourly equivalent. Because you control the weeks and hours, it works for full-time, part-time, seasonal, contract and reduced-week schedules where the standard 2,080-hour assumption doesn’t fit.

Example Problem: $20 an Hour

You earn $20 per hour, 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year. What is your gross annual salary, and what do the other pay periods look like?

  • Hourly wage: $20 for each hour worked.
  • Yearly hours: 40 × 52 = 2,080 hours.
  • Annual salary: $20 × 2,080 = $41,600.
  • Monthly pay: $41,600 ÷ 12 = $3,466.67.
  • Weekly pay: $20 × 40 = $800. Biweekly pay: $800 × 2 = $1,600.
  • Daily pay on a 5-day week: 40 ÷ 5 = 8 hours, and $20 × 8 = $160.

If you have two weeks of unpaid time off, enter 50 weeks. Your annual salary becomes $40,000 instead of $41,600, a difference of $1,600.

Key Concepts

Yearly working hours

Yearly working hours are the most important idea in any pay conversion. The usual full-time baseline is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, but real schedules differ because of unpaid leave, part-time work, seasonal contracts or compressed weeks. Full-time hours also vary by country and employer (37.5, 44 or 48 hours a week are common), so change the hours to match your contract.

Hourly vs salaried pay

Hourly workers are paid for each hour worked and may be entitled to overtime. Salaried employees receive a fixed gross amount, often with benefits such as health cover, retirement contributions, paid leave and bonuses. When you compare offers, the pay conversion is only the starting point: the schedule and the full package matter too.

Weekly, biweekly and monthly figures

Weekly and biweekly pay in this calculator are for a normal working week, and monthly pay is yearly pay divided by 12. If you enter fewer than 52 weeks, “biweekly” means two working weeks, not a payroll cycle.

Applications

  • Comparing an hourly job offer with a salaried one on the same basis
  • Estimating yearly income for budgeting or a loan application
  • Finding the hourly equivalent of a salary when setting freelance or consulting rates
  • Adjusting income for part-time, seasonal or variable schedules
  • Seeing how unpaid time off changes your yearly earnings
  • Checking whether a monthly, weekly or daily rate is competitive with an hourly offer
  • Comparing a monthly stipend or research assistantship with an hourly job (see the example below)

Worked Examples

Full-time job offer: $15.50 an hour

A full-time role pays $15.50 per hour for a 40-hour week and 52 paid weeks.

  • Hours per year = 40 × 52 = 2,080 hours
  • Annual salary = $15.50 × 2,080 = $32,240
  • Monthly pay = $32,240 ÷ 12 = $2,686.67
  • Weekly pay = $15.50 × 40 hours = $620
  • Biweekly pay = $620 × 2 = $1,240
  • Daily pay on a 5-day week = $620 ÷ 5 = $124

This is the clean 2,080-hour case, a useful baseline when you compare hourly and salaried offers.

Part-time job: $17.25 an hour on a 24-hour week

A part-time role pays $17.25 per hour for 24 hours a week, 48 working weeks a year, over 5 days.

  • Hours per year = 24 × 48 = 1,152 hours
  • Annual salary = $17.25 × 1,152 = $19,872
  • Monthly pay = $19,872 ÷ 12 = $1,656
  • Weekly pay = $17.25 × 24 hours = $414
  • Daily pay on a 5-day week = $414 ÷ 5 = $82.80

A reduced schedule lowers yearly income by more than the hourly rate suggests. Hours and weeks matter as much as the quoted wage.

Salary offer: $85,000 a year

A salaried role offers $85,000 per year on a 40-hour week and 52 weeks.

  • Hours per year = 40 × 52 = 2,080 hours
  • Hourly rate = $85,000 ÷ 2,080 = $40.87
  • Weekly pay = $85,000 ÷ 52 ≈ $1,634.62
  • Monthly pay = $85,000 ÷ 12 ≈ $7,083.33
  • Daily pay on a 5-day week = $1,634.62 ÷ 5 ≈ $326.92

Monthly stipend in rupees: Rs 60,000 a month

A research assistantship pays Rs 60,000 per month. What is that per hour?

  • Yearly pay = 60,000 × 12 = Rs 720,000
  • On a 40-hour week (2,080 hours a year): 720,000 ÷ 2,080 ≈ Rs 346.15 per hour
  • On a 20-hour week (1,040 hours a year): 720,000 ÷ 1,040 ≈ Rs 692.31 per hour

Choose PKR in the currency box, select “Salary → Hourly rate”, set the pay period to monthly and enter your own hours.

Common Mistakes

Gross pay vs take-home

  • Forgetting that the result is gross pay. Tax and deductions reduce take-home pay.
  • Using 52 weeks when you have unpaid time off. Reduce weeks per year to the weeks you actually work.
  • Ignoring overtime. The calculator uses straight-time pay, so regular overtime means higher real earnings.

Comparing offers fairly

  • Comparing without benefits. Health cover, retirement contributions and paid leave can be worth a lot, and they vary by employer.
  • Multiplying the hourly rate by 24 for daily pay. Daily pay uses your scheduled hours per day, typically 8.
  • Treating a monthly salary as if every month has the same working hours. Convert to a yearly total first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Converting Between Hourly and Salary Pay

How do I convert an hourly rate to an annual salary?

Multiply your hourly rate by your hours per week, then by your weeks per year. For example, $15 × 40 hours × 52 weeks = $31,200 a year.

How do I convert a salary to an hourly rate?

Divide your annual salary by your total working hours in a year. On a standard full-time schedule that is 2,080 hours, so $60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85 per hour.

What is the formula for converting hourly pay to annual salary?

Annual salary = Hourly rate × Hours per week × Weeks per year. To reverse it, Hourly rate = Annual salary ÷ (Hours per week × Weeks per year).

Common Pay Questions

How much is $20 an hour annually?

At $20 an hour for 40 hours a week and 52 weeks, you earn $41,600 a year before tax, about $3,466.67 a month.

How much is a $50,000 salary per hour?

About $24.04 per hour, assuming 40 hours a week for 52 weeks ($50,000 ÷ 2,080).

How much is $25 an hour per month?

At $25 an hour for 40 hours a week and 52 weeks, you earn $52,000 a year, or about $4,333.33 a month before tax and deductions.

Assumptions and Edge Cases

Why is 2,080 used for annual hours?

It comes from 40 hours a week × 52 weeks a year. It is a common full-time baseline, but your own schedule may differ, so you can change the hours and weeks.

Does this calculator include overtime?

No. It assumes straight-time pay for every hour. Overtime rules differ by country, state and contract (in the US, many hourly employees are paid 1.5× for hours over 40 a week), so any overtime would raise your actual earnings.

Should I include vacation and holidays?

If your vacation and holidays are paid, they are already covered by your pay, so use 52 weeks. If any time off is unpaid, reduce the weeks per year.

Is hourly pay or salary better?

It depends on your schedule, overtime opportunities, benefits, bonuses and job security. Convert both offers to the same gross figure first, then compare the full package.
